Incoming Freshmen Scholarships

The College of Business Administration has several scholarships available for incoming freshmen. Unless otherwise indicated, please apply for these scholarships by submitting the Scholarship Application for Incoming Students to the Chair, CBA Scholarship Committee, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by Feb. 28. The Joyce Wortman Barnett Endowed International Business Scholarship for Excellence
This renewable, merit-based scholarship is awarded each year to a student who is enrolled in the College of Business Administration with a major in international business. Full Description

The Margaret (Zink) Brewster Scholarship in International Business
This scholarship is awarded to academically talented students who are pursing degrees in international business. Full Description

The Kenneth L. Calhoun Scholarship for Excellence in Finance
This merit-based tuition scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman in the College of Business Administration with preference given to students who intend to major in finance. Full Description

Center for Information Technology (CITe) Tuition Scholarship
The CITe Scholarship is awarded to information systems major at any level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate) and is renewable. Full Description

George W. Daverio Freshman Scholarship
Funded by the Daverio Endowment, this merit-based scholarship was established in 1994 to be awarded to an entering freshman majoring in accounting that graduated from an area high school. It can be renewed each year if the student maintains a 3.40 minimum grade point average and continues as an accounting major. Candidates may not apply for this scholarship. The School of Accountancy Scholarship Committee selects recipients from the list of incoming Accounting majors who have obtained admission to the CBA by the end of the first week of February. Karen Frey Scholarship

This $3,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman business major that graduated from an area parochial high school. Full Description

The Donald S. Hills Endowed Scholarship Fund in the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy
This scholarship was established in 1996 by Donald S. Hills, a 1947 graduate of the College of Business Administration with a degree in accounting. The scholarship is used to recruit incoming freshmen desiring to major in accounting. Mr. Hills served as vice president of Sara Lee Products and assistant secretary of Sara Lee Corporation and vice president of Lawsons Company. Candidates may not apply for this scholarship. The School of Accountancy Scholarship Committee selects recipients from the list of incoming Accounting majors who have obtained admission to the CBA by the end of the first week of February. The Russell R. and Vivienne S. Johnstone Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to incoming or current CBA students who have financial need. Consideration will be given to current students with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Full Description

The Peggy and Bill Maltarich Jr. Endowed Business Scholarship in Excellence
This merit-based scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman business major. Full Description

The R.C. and Katharine Musson Endowment Fund in the College of Business Administration
Earnings from this fund provide scholarships for new freshmen that have received direct admission to the College of Business Administration. Full Description

The Charlotte Ostroff Memorial Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established by Samuel Ostroff ’32, a graduate of the College of Engineering and Commerce, in memory of his late wife, Charlotte.  It is awarded to an incoming freshman who will be enrolled full-time in both the CBA and the Honors College. Full Description

The Richard C. Rea, CPA, Scholarship Fund
The Richard C. Rea, CPA, Scholarship Fund was established by Rea and Associates Inc. to honor the founding partner on the firm's 50th anniversary. The scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen intending to major in accounting. Recipients must be residents of a county in which Rea and Associates Inc. has an office. Candidates may not apply for this scholarship. The School of Accountancy Scholarship Committee selects recipients from the list of incoming Accounting majors who have obtained admission to the CBA by the end of the first week of February. The Harry P. and Rainy G. Stitzlein Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Business
Applicants for this scholarship must rank in the upper one-third of their high school graduating class, have a 3.25 or better grade point average, and a 26 or higher ACT score. Full Description

The Sidney R. and Cora Walker Scholarship
This scholarship is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors who are pursuing majors in marketing management, sales management, e-marketing/advertising and international business or minors in entrepreneurial studies. Full Description

The Robert D. and Peggy A. Weed Scholarship for Excellence in Business
This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen with high academic standing. Full Description

The Bernard F. Zaucha Endowed Scholarship for Excellence
*This scholarship will not be available in 2013-2014*
This scholarship was established in 1997 by Bernard F. Zaucha, former faculty member of The University of Akron’s School of Accountancy. The scholarship was created to thank The University of Akron for the fine education he received and for appreciation for his many years of teaching. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration who is a graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School, with first preference given to accounting majors. The CBA Scholarship Committee selects the recipient, in consultation with the Zaucha family. Application forms are sent to the Guidance Department at Archbishop Hoban High School each year.
