Marketing Scholarships

*Please note: All information printed below is subject to change based on The University of Akron’s Budget Office report available in mid-March 2013 which will provide the amount of money available from each scholarship account.

THE APPLICATION CONSISTS OF A RESUME AND COVER LETTER, PLEASE READ EACH DESCRIPTION FOR DETAILS.When scholarship description states “full-time student”, “junior standing”, or another criterion, this means during the period that the scholarship is active - the 2013-14 academic year.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS IS: 5:00 P.M., Friday, March 22, 2013 (Except for Walker Scholarship applications which are due on February 1, 2013).

Apply for all scholarships for which you are eligible, based on the qualifications listed. You will need to create a new cover letter for every scholarship you apply for stating how you meet all the qualifications specific to each scholarhip. You need not create a new cover letter for each scholarship, simply change the heading. See an example of a resume and a cover letter.

According to the Financial Aid Office, in most cases a scholarship will not affect any Stafford loans that a student is already receiving. In general, the university will award scholarships up to the amount of tuition and fees, taking into account all scholarships that the student might be receiving. The American Advertising Federation Akron Chapter Endowed Scholarship In Marketing
This endowed scholarship was established in May, 1989, by the former Advertising Club of Akron. The American Advertising Federation Akron Chapter Endowed Scholarship in Marketing is awarded to a full-time junior or senior student who is majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) or related field. The scholarship recipient must possess an overall GPA of 2.75, or above, and an overall 3.0 GPA, or above, in their chosen major. The scholarship recipient is selected by the University Scholarship Committee. The Board of Directors of The American Advertising Federation Akron Chapter receives the name of the recipient before the selection is announced. Full Description

Thomas A. Brewster Scholarship
One $600 scholarship ($300 Fall and $300 Spring semester) is awarded to a full-time student with junior or senior standing majoring in marketing management, sales management, e-marketing or advertising. Full Description

Lia and John H. Costello Jr. Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Business
*This scholarship will not be available in 2013-2014*
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration with preference given to marketing majors. Full Description

Velma Hesselbart Scholarship
An award of $2,000 ($1,000 Fall and $1,000 Spring semester) toward tuition and fees will be made annually to a woman majoring in marketing management, sales management, e-marketing or advertising who is a full-time student at the junior, senior, or graduate level. Full Description

Robert and Hellen Mitten Scholarships
At least ten (10) $1,000 scholarships ($500 Fall and $500 Spring semester) will be awarded to recognize students who exemplify outstanding merit and financial need. Eligible applicants are 
full-time students at the junior or senior level who are majoring in marketing management, sales management, e-marketing or advertising. Full Description

Karl O. Nygaard Memorial Scholarship
One $1,500 scholarship ($750 Fall and $750 Spring semester) will be awarded to an outstanding marketing management major with significant financial need and sophomore, junior, or senior standing. Full Description

The Dr. George E. Prough Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a junior or senior currently pursuing a degree in marketing with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. One $1,000 scholarship will be available ($500 Fall and $500 Spring semester). Full Description

The Clement L. Reymann Scholarship For the Fisher Institute of Professional Selling
This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to a junior or senior seeking a career in professional sales. The recipient shall demonstrate scholarship and extracurricular commitment to The University of Akron and their community. Full Description

Patrick and Nancy Steinkerchner Roberts Scholarship
The scholarship provides $250 to students majoring in marketing management, sales management, e-marketing and advertising who have financial need and are active in student organizations. Full Description

The Harry P. and Rainy G. Stitzlein Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Business
Applicants for this scholarship must rank in the upper one-third of their high school graduating class, have a 3.25 or better grade point average, and a 26 or higher ACT score. Full Description

The Thomas H. Taylor, Sr. Sales Scholarships
This scholarship benefits students pursuing degrees in sales management through the Ronald R. and Diane C. Fisher Institute for Professional Selling. Two awards of $2,500 each ($1,250 Fall and $1,250 Spring semester) are available. Full Description

The Sidney R. and Cora Walker Scholarship
This scholarship is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors who are pursuing majors in marketing management, sales management, e-marketing/advertising and international business or minors in entrepreneurial studies. Full Description
