A new activity for local entrepreneurs was launched March 16, 2010 – the Entrepreneur’s Idea Exchange. The event, to be held every other month helps entrepreneurs through feedback, recommendations and referrals from peers and seasoned entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurs started arriving at The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration on Broadway 5:30pm for the 6:00 pm event. Upon registration they received a name badge with a table number.
The event was kicked off by organizer, Corrine Beller who welcomed the group of 70 strong. She then turned it over to local seasoned entrepreneur, Andrew Holland who offered background and outlined the structure for the event.
The group then broke into their roundtables whereupon each person gave a quick overview of their business concept then received comments, feedback, suggestions and referrals such as the SBDC, SCORE, and University of Akron Business Legal Clinic. After 90 minutes of animated conversation, the groups re-convened in the main area where many people continued to talk, make appointments to see each other in the near term and share the advice given them that will help them move their business concept to the next level.
The facilitators were from the organizing committee. Last night’s facilitators included people from the Akron Athena Powerlink®, Austen Bioinnovation Institute, Cohen and Co., Greater Akron Chamber, Leadership Akron, Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), SCORE and Women’s Network. Future sessions will have facilitators from the original group and from the Akron Incubator, Akron Urban League, Summa Foundation, Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board, Kent Regional Business Alliance, Medina County Economic Development Corp., SquareOne Consulting, UARF (The University of Akron Research Foundation) and The University of Akron’s MCUC, Midpoint and Wayne College campuses.
