CBA Alumnus Receives Prestigious Award08/27/2010
On Wednesday, July 28, 2010, CBA alumnus, James A. Bell, was awarded the Dr. Jackson R. E. Phillips award from the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APT US & C) during their 45th Annual Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina.
Bell, who graduated from the CBA in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Finance, has been the Director of Finance for the City of Vandalia, Ohio since April 2006. Before he was hired in Vandalia, he served as Finance Director for the City of Rittman, Ohio for over eleven years.
A Certified Public Finance Administrator (CPFA) and Certified Public Funds Investment Manager (CPFIM), Bell is Past President of the Ohio Association of Public Treasurers (OAPT), APT US & C, and the North Central Ohio Municipal Finance Officers Association. In 2009, he received the John D. Cannone Award, the highest honor bestowed on a member of the Ohio APT.
The Dr. Jackson R. E. Phillips award, instituted in 1980, was designed to recognize one APT US & C member for professional leadership and significant contribution to professional treasury management. Its purpose is to encourage development of innovative programs and education in public finance. Bell is one of 30 members of APT US & C who have received the award since 1980.
