3M Company has a long history of innovation in multiple fields. In particular, 3M has enjoyed considerable success regarding innovations in the fields of polymer science and polymer engineering. This talk provides a brief review of the need for innovation and innovation processes, and a more detailed review of the 3M Company and its renowned Culture of Innovation. Included are several examples of Innovation in practice along with the key components of 3M's culture which enable this ongoing success story.
Patrick Hager is a native of Akron, Ohio and received a B.S. in Chemistry and a PhD in Polymer Science from the University of Akron. He has spent his entire career with the 3M Company in Life Sciences, Consumer and Industrial laboratories and is currently a Corporate Scientist in 3M’s Industrial & Transportation group. His work has contributed to over $1 B in value to 3M, and his current research interests include surface structure and functionalization; novel conformable acoustic materials; passive filtration and particulate capture systems and novel applications of abrasives.
