The finals for the World Collegiate Sales Open were held this past weekend, February 23 – 25, at Northern Illinois University. CBA students Joshua Woolls and Timothy Shark both advanced to the finals after three qualifying rounds. Of the original 200 students from 21 different schools and 8 countries, only 20 students advanced to the final round.
In the final competition, participants were required to engage professional buyers in several role plays, leave effective voice mails, and use a ‘16 floors elevator pitch’ to convince the CEO of the buying company to meet with them. All performances were judged by a group of sales professionals. After completing all activities, Joshua Woolls took 1st overall in the completion, winning a $2,000 cash prize!
Woolls admitted that “winning felt wonderful” but was also very appreciative of all the support he received. “I would not have been able to do it without the help of Dr. Orr, my coach Dr. Beuk, and especially the help of the other students in my Advanced Professional Selling class,” he said.
Dr. Frederik Beuk, Assistant Professor of Marketing, coached all ten of the Akron students who participated from the onset of the competition. Dr. Beuk credited Akron’s success to both the quality of students and the Fisher Institute for Professional Selling. “Both Josh and TJ are absolutely sales super stars, who benefited tremendously from our revamped sales undergraduate curriculum,” Beuk said.
The Fisher Institute for Professional Selling ranks as the #3 Professional Sales program in the US and Canada, as determined by the Center for Sales Leadership at DePaul University.Tweet
