10/07/2009

Schwab Conference AttendeesResponding to a special invitation from Charles Schwab, a leading provider of investment services, seven students and two faculty from the College of Business Administration attended the Charles Schwab Impact 2009 Conference in September 2009.

Held at the San Diego Convention Center, the conference brought together professionals in the investments and financial services fields to update skills, investigate new products, and build networks. The CBA representatives were instructors, Steven Washington and Douglas Robinson, and students, LeAnne Davis, Alanna Eibel, Paul Finan, Paul Fulina, Michael Modon, Jonathan Sandlund, and Matt Wade.

The students were able to attend educational sessions where industry experts discussed the latest developments. They also had many opportunities to talk with professional investment advisors, representatives of financial institutions, and other students. According to the students, these conversations helped them understand the profession better and establish national contacts.

“The 2009 Schwab Impact conference was an incredible experience,” said Jonathan Sandlund, a corporate finance major. “I was given the opportunity to not only learn from, but also network with, industry veterans on both a professional and social level. The education sessions were led by industry experts who were eager to share their wealth of knowledge and experience. Perhaps, most importantly, the conference provided a tremendous networking opportunity as it served as a central location for hundreds of industry professionals from around the world. I cannot express enough the importance and value of such an opportunity. To anyone considering a career in finance, whether it be corporate or planning, I urge you to take advantage opportunities like this… you won’t regret it!”
