11/03/2009

The Princeton Review 2010 EditionThe College of Business Administration at The University of Akron is an outstanding business school, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company featured the CBA in the 2010 edition of its "Best 301 Business Schools" (Random House / Princeton Review, Oct. 6, 2009).

According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review Senior VP-Publishing, "We are pleased to recommend the College of Business Administration at The University of Akron to readers of our book and users of our site, www.PrincetonReview.com, as one of the best institutions they could attend to earn an MBA."

"We are pleased to be included in this prestigious list for a sixth consecutive year," said Dr. Ravi Krovi, Acting Dean and Professor of Management and Information Systems.  "Our MBA program continues to have a very good reputation – our alumni are very well placed in organizations across the country. This recognition reflects the reputation of our faculty and their commitment to quality and continuous improvement. MBA students at The University of Akron get an opportunity to interact with the best and the brightest.  The average GMAT score of students in our part-time MBA program is one of the highest in the state. Our programs have been designed to accommodate the needs of the evening student. Not surprisingly, the college has seen an increase of 32% in applications and enrollment has increased by 11.9% in Fall 2009.”

"The Best 301 Business Schools: 2010 Edition" has two-page profiles of the schools with write-ups on their academics, student life and admissions, plus ratings for their academics, selectivity and career placement services. In the profile on the CBA, the Princeton Review editors describe the school as having a "flexible and comprehensive MBA program and boasting an excellent reputation for business." They quote from CBA students who say, "There is a lot of flexibility in terms of the timings of courses offered and also variety,” and “Group work presents a valuable opportunity to not only meet diverse people, but also to explore the unique perspectives and immense knowledge that others can contribute.”

In a "Survey Says . . . " sidebar in the profile, The Princeton Review lists topics that CBA students were in most agreement about. The list includes: "cutting edge classes" and "smart classrooms." The Princeton Review's 80-question survey for the book asked students about themselves, their career plans, and their schools’ academics, student body and campus life.

The Princeton Review does not rank the business schools in the book on a single hierarchical list from 1 to 301, or name one business school best overall. Instead, the book has 11 ranking lists of the top 10 business schools in various categories. Ten lists are based on The Princeton Review's surveys of 19,000 students attending the 301 business schools profiled in the book. (Only schools that permitted The Princeton Review to survey their students were eligible for consideration for these lists.) Conducted during the 2008-09, 2007-08, and 2006-07 academic years, the student surveys were primarily completed online. One list, "Toughest to Get Into," is based solely on institutional data. (All schools in the book were eligible for consideration for this list.) The lists are posted at Princeton Review Web-site.
