Beta Gamma Sigma induction honors CBA's Best and Brightest

BGSOn April 13, 2012, at an initiation ceremony for the Kappa of Ohio Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the CBA honored 60 of the college's best and brightest students and three outstanding faculty members. The event was attended by President Luis Proenza; Provost Mike Sherman; Dr. Bill Considine, President of Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, who was the guest speaker; CBA faculty and staff, friends and faculty of the initiates, and members of the business community.

Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society that recognizes the best business students in AACSB-accredited colleges and universities worldwide. The 29 juniors, 18 seniors and 13 graduate students represent the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes and the top 20 percent of the graduate class.

Three CBA faculty members were also inducted based on their contributions to the college: Jerry Apple, instructor of accounting; John Goodell, assistant professor of finance; and William Hauser, associate professor of marketing.

The Kappa of Ohio Chapter also recognized Dr. Considine for possessing the qualities fostered by Beta Gamma Sigma and for furthering the ideals of the Society through outstanding business and managerial leadership. He was named a Chapter Honoree and awarded honorary membership in the Society.

Three students were recognized as the outstanding student in each rank. They were selected for achieving academic excellence while making significant contributions to the college or university; maintaining significant involvement in extracurricular or community activities; or overcoming a special circumstance or hardship. For 2011-12, the Outstanding Junior is Claudia Bertram, the Outstanding Senior is Kristen Pero and the Outstanding Graduate Student is Garett Simpson.

Stephanie Lubrano was selected as the recipient of the $1,000 Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship for the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year.
