The Important Role of the Faculty As a faculty member, you have the unique opportunity to support and encourage the success of your students as well as the success of your program. You can play an important role by:
Providing Your Students with the Resources for Success CCM staff members are available, upon request, to make outreach presentations to classes/organizations about our services. Please encourage your students to take advantage of the services offered by the CCM by announcing upcoming events and giving extra credit for attendance. Above all, please instill within your students the importance of career development and how the CCM can assist in this endeavor.
In addition, students may ask you to write a letter of recommendation on their behalf. For assistance in writing letters of recommendation, please visit a website sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers at www.jobweb.com/Research/reftips.html.
Recruiting Students to Your Academic Program The CCM encourages students to consider a variety of disciplines that compliment their interests and abilities when deciding on a major. Any information you provide to us will in turn be provided as a resource to students. Please share with us any information concerning your program and the careers and graduate programs related to it.
Marketing Your Academic Program to Potential Employers The CCM coordinates on-campus recruiting events throughout the year, and we encourage you to make yourself available to meet with recruiters to promote your academic program and its students. Please contact us if you would like to spend a lunch hour with an employer on a specific scheduled date.
Assisting with Employer Contacts and Networking Employers seeking to recruit students from The University of Akron may contact you regarding part-time, internships/co-ops and/or full-time career employment. Please share recruiting inquiries with the CCM in order to ensure that all students and programs are represented. Should you receive an inquiry about how to recruit or information on job openings, please contact the CCM so that we may make every effort to meet the employer's recruitment needs. For more information on ethical and legal standards for student hiring, please visit the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) at http://www.naceweb.org/about/public/faculty.htm.
