How do I pay?
Payment must be made in full before the first class. You can stop in our office and pay by cash, mail in a check, or pay by credit card. We accept VISA, MasterCard and Discover.
1. When you have decided which course you want to take, jot down the five-digit course number. Then click on "Register Now!" in the upper right corner of the webpage. This will take you to a form you can fill in online, or print to mail in with your check.
2. Type in the course number on the registration page and your course title will automatically come up on the screen, with the fee. You can indicate your type of payment on the form. If you want to pay by credit card, we will contact you by phone for the number and expiration date, or you can fax the information to us. Further instructions are on the registration form.
Note: You can submit your online form to us in order to hold your seat, and mail the check in separately (put the course number and title in the Memo section of your check).

What is the refund policy for non-credit courses?
If a noncredit course is canceled by The University of Akron, a full refund will be issued. Withdrawal requests received up to three business days prior to the first class meeting will result in a full refund, less a $15 processing charge, or an opportunity to transfer to another course. Thereafter, withdrawal requests received up to the beginning of the second class meeting will receive a 50 percent refund.
No refunds are issued after the start of the second day of classes. Substitutions also may be accepted in lieu of a refund.
Refunds for noncredit courses are determined by the date the withdrawal request is received. The refund period cannot be extended if the student fails to attend the first class. Charge cards and refund checks will be processed promptly. Parking permits must be returned to the Workforce Development and Continuing Education office to receive a refund. What if my course is canceled?
In the event of a course cancellation or change, you will be notified by phone or mail. Transfers to other courses will be available.
The University of Akron reserves the right to change instructors and to cancel or reschedule a program in the event of insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. Information on this website and in the catalog should not be considered a contract between students and The University of Akron Workforce Development and Continuing Education. Do you send a confirmation of my registration?
All registrations will be confirmed upon receipt of payment. Confirmation will include parking instructions, map, required supplies and materialsm list, and credit card receipt, where applicable. If you have not received confirmation three (3) days prior to your class, please call us at 330-972-7577.

Can I reserve a seat and pay later?
Class enrollment is not guaranteed or confirmed until payment is received. If we are holding a space for you in our class, and that class reaches maximum capacity, payment will be expected within 48 hours of notification to you. In order to be fair to all students, after 48 hours, unpaid seats will be filled.

What about books?
If a course requires a textbook (see course description), you can purchase it at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the Polsky Building, 225 S. Main St., third floor (enter from High St). Published prices are approximate and subject to change. Used textbooks may be available in limited quantities. Book buyback is available year round. Many courses include textbooks which will be in the classroom when you arrive.
Call the bookstore at 330-972-8166 for current hours of operation and details about the bookstore's auto shipment program. What is a CEU?
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) provide a measurable record of course participation in noncredit programs. Each CEU is equivalent to 10 class hours (10 hours = 1.0 CEU) and is expressed to the nearest tenth. This unit of measurement has been adopted nationwide by continuing education programs. There is no additional charge for CEUs.
Akron Public Schools Approves CEU credit for Educator Professional Development Courses offered through The University of Akron's Workforce Development and Continuing Education program that are directly related to an educator's Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) are pre-approved for CEU credit through the Akron Public Schools Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). Your certificate of completion from Continuing Education must be presented to your local LPDC to be converted into Akron Public Schools CEUs.
If you teaching in a school district other than Akron city, check with your school district's local professional development committee (LPDC) about the applicability of courses prior to enrolling.

Will I receive a grade?
You will receive a certificate of completion if you attend 75 percent of the classes. No grades are given. Your permanent CEU record is maintained at by our office. A transcript is available for a fee of $4.

What about parking on campus?
Parking permits are required to park in all University of Akron student lots Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. No permits are required for noncredit classes held off campus.
Parking permits for any Workforce Development noncredit week-day class on campus will be included with your confirmation letter. Lost permits will be replaced for a fee. (NOTE: No parking permit is required to attend non-credit, Continuing Education classes held on Saturday or Sunday). Permits must be displayed on your rearview mirror before the first class session. Permits will be mailed to you with your course confirmation letter. A permit must be returned before a refund can be processed.

Do you offer discounts?
Only one discount per course may be used. Discount does not apply to parking, books or material fees. Discounts do not apply to all courses; please read course descriptions for details.
Early Registration: Register and pay for any Spring 2008 course costing $129 or more by 4 p.m. May 23 and take $10 off the cost. Registrations received by mail must be postmarked by May 23.
Seniors: Senior citizens (adults 55 and over) can receive a 10 percent discount on all noncredit courses (except where indicated). Parking permits are not subject to discounts.
Corporate Discounts: Enroll 3 - 4 people from your organization in a computer, business or technical course and receive a 10% per person discount. For 5 or more, a 15% per person discount applies. (Except where indicated. Discounts do not apply to credit courses.) If you have more than 5 employees seeking training in one subject, please contact us for information about on-site, customized training, 330-972-7577.

What if it snows?
If The University of Akron cancels classes due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances, closing information will be broadcast by area radio and television stations. When conditions are threatening, turn to your local stations for news or call 330-972-SNOW (7669). If the University is closed, all continuing education classes on and off campus will be canceled and rescheduled.
