Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators
The mission of the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators(BENHA) is to increase the quality of care in nursing homes, as well as make sure the elderly are receiving both safe and healthy assistance from the nursing home staff. The board develops and enforces standards for nursing home administrators, in an effort to increase the amount of qualified staff at the nursing home.
The board is responsible for issuing and suspending licenses, as well as investigating complaints. They also evaluate and approve continuing education courses that meet license renewal requirements.
Currently nursing home administrators are required to take 20 hours of continuing education units each year in order to renew their licenses.
The University of Akron, Workforce Development and Continuing Education, Summit College, is a BENHA-Approved Provider of Continuing Education Units in Ohio. We offer many courses that have been submitted and approved by BENHA, that will count towards the 20 hours of continuing education required for license renewal.
The Board has four (4) renewal dates per year: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. These dates can give an approximate estimate of when to expect new BENHA approved classes.
