This course is designed for the homeowner or someone who is interested in a new career. Items covered include site analysis, measuring, preliminary design studies, themes, use of outdoor structures and forms and the composition of the master plan. Design instruments and materials list available at the first class. Field trips will be included in this course. Design homework assignments are planned.

FLORAL DESIGN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
This practical hands-on, entry-level certificate program offers you an in-depth, comprehensive training to prepare you for employment in the retail floral industry, craft, and specialty shops or for use in your home. Emphasis is on mastering floral design techniques using fresh, treated, and dried floral products. Plant and flower care, floral terms, identification are just some of the basics that will be covered. Floral portfolio will be required. Evaluations will be based on hands-on, text material, flower identification and terms. You will have various homework assignments. This program has been developed with the cooperation of Canton Wholesale Florist. Personal tools not included. Materials fee of approximately $120 payable to the instructor.

GIFT AND FLORAL SHOP MANAGEMENT
This 3-hour workshop focuses on strategies, best practices, and money-saving tips for managing a gift or floral shop. Topics include merchandising for better sales, product selection, eye appeal, pricing structures, “shrink” – what it is and how to avoid it, making use of “white elephant” inventory, and how to add-on items for increased sales.
