( Photography ) - PERSONAL ENRICHMENT

FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOJOURNALISM
Do you want to take better candid photos? Would you like to break out of the standard vacation picture with your relatives standing in front of a tourist attraction, smiling and waving? This course is for you if you are a parent who wants to have nice images of your children as they grow up - active in sports and school activities - a high school year book advisor, a photographer for your school newspaper, a realtor, hobbyist, aspiring photojournalist, or if you need good photos for publications and the web for you organization or business. Learn the fundamentals of photojournalistic practices - how to frame and capture the 'moment'. This course includes techniques in how to approach your subject and look at it in a new way. Applying the "rule of thirds," photographing people at events. ISO/ASA and pixilation, camera lenses and how/why to use them, framing inside the viewfinder, proficient use of the f-stop and shutter speed and the impact of depth of field, understanding of light, composition and emotion, and basic ethics in photojournalism. You will have some out of class assignments, and the opportunity to have your photographs critiqued. Instructions apply to both digital and SLR cameras. Join instructor Stephanie Krell, photo editor and newswire photographer. You must have basic working knowledge of your camera to take this course, and a flash drive to bring images to class for computer projection.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Reach your full artistic potential with your digital camera! Learn the importance of computer corrections and enhancements, and the options for creating a final image output. Basic camera techniques and composition will be discussed along with the creative options available through the computer. This will help the digital imaging skills of the casual to everyday user. You must have an understanding of your digital camera and have basic computer experience. No class July 2.

DIGITAL NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
Are you confused about megapixels, JPEG and RAW files, white balance and other digital photography jargon? Join environmental photographer Ian Adams for an exciting two-day adventure learning how to use your digital point-and-shoot or SLR camera to make sharp, colorful, well-composed nature photographs and how to fine-tune your digital images with Photoshop CS2 and share them with family, friends, and clients via email, your website, Powerpoint programs and exhibit-quality color inkjet prints. Includes a one-day in-depth
classroom session, a half-day field photography session in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and a half-day classroom critique of participants’ photographs, with demonstrations of Photoshop CS2. New for summer: new digital imaging software for photographers, including Adobe’s Lightroom, will be discussed and demonstrated. Lunch is on your own.
