Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences leads UA in the amount of external grants it receives for research.

In 2001, the Institute for Health and Social Policy received a $13.7 million grant for evaluation of a new D.A.R.E. curriculum from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, the largest grant in the history of UA.
