The history of the University of Akron has been a history of how chemistry has contributed to industrial development in northeast Ohio. The Chemistry Department works to continue to be a source of economic growth for Northeastern Ohio through the development and commercialization of chemical processes and products, through state-of-the-art analysis and prediction of materials properties, and through the education of the technical workforce needed in industry.
