Welcome to the Economics Department at the University of Akron. Our Department consists of ten full-time faculty members, approximately 15 to 20 students in our Master’s Program, nearly 100 undergraduate majors and minors, and a very capable support staff. I hope that you will find our website helpful in answering any questions that you have about us and that by the end of your visit you will know more about who we are and our aspirations for the future.

Our faculty is engaged in cutting edge research in a wide variety of fields. At both the undergraduate and graduate level our programs emphasize the development of theoretical and data analysis skills that can be used in the investigation of economic problems in a wide variety of settings. Many of our students present their research to external audiences and some have won awards for their work in paper competitions, both regionally and beyond.

The accomplishments of our alumni are many and some have gone on to a play an important role in the formulation of the public policy of our nation. Notable among these are Sandy Pianalto, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and currently a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, and Mike Morell, Director of Intelligence at the Central Intelligence Agency.

Our University is located in the heart of a large dynamic region of Northeast Ohio that is well known for affordable living and a high quality of life. I invite you to browse our website to learn more about us and where we live. Please contact me personally at if I can answer any questions or be of any further service.
