Patrick Chura teaches courses in American Literature and cultural studies from the colonial period to the twentieth century. He is the author of Vital Contact: Downclassing Journeys in American Literature from Herman Melville to Richard Wright. His current research projects include articles for the African American National Biography (forthcoming in 2008), and his second book, an analysis of the land surveying career of Henry David Thoreau, under contract with University Press of Florida and scheduled for release in 2009. Dr. Chura has published articles on Abraham Cahan, Eugene O'Neill, Harper Lee, Thoreau and Shakespeare. He serves on the editorial board of the journal Lituanus.
