The Literary Guild is a group of graduate and undergraduate students from many majors who are interested in literature and share a common love for the written word. The Literary Guild sponsors a reading group and a writing group, dubbed The Upstart Crows, hosts an annual “open mic” poetry night, travels to see plays performed in Akron and Cleveland, and engages in a variety of other intellectual and social activities throughout the year. New members from all majors are always welcome.
Upstart Crows Writing Workshop meets one Friday a month -- check in the English Department for the next regular meeting time, date, and place. Bring 15+ copies of a poem or a short-short story (about one page for either), and get ready for some helpful feedback and literary fun. |

Open Mic Night
Stay tuned for our Upstart Crows Open Mic night! Once a semester we take to the stage and enjoy the inspiring space of Mocha Maiden, a coffeehouse and performance space off Market Street downtown (near High Street) for an evening of poetry reading.
Get in touch with culture through local events and readings; see the NEOMFA News and Events page or the UA Events page for upcoming readings, colloquia, or panels. Events in Akron are posted below. Most events are free and open to the public!
