English Major Degree Requirements

1. 36 Credits - Not including Composition 111 & 112, Classic and Contemporary Literature 250, Shakespeare and His World 252, and Fiction Appreciation 281.

2. Five introductory English classes:

3300:300 Critical Reading & Writing
3300:301 English Literature I
   
3300:315 Shakespeare: Early Plays
or  
3300:316 Shakespeare: Mature Plays
   
3300:341 American Literature I
3300:371 Introduction to Linguistics
3300:492 Senior Seminar

Note: Students must receive a C- or better in the above classes

3. A minimum of four 400-level English courses including 492 from above

4. A minimum of three elective English courses

Note: One course must be in world or multi-cultural literature, which is literature outside the traditional canon of British and American writers. If this course is at the 400-level, it may also count as one of the required 400-level courses.

5. Second year of a foreign language
