TREC: Paleoceanography

|
| Dr. David Black (he is the one who is about to fall in...) deploying a sediment trap in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. A sediment trap is the device that catches material as it sinks through the water to the sea floor. Undergraduate and graduate students go out on the ship to help retrieve and re-deploy the trap approximately every six months. Dr. Black's research provides information that allows us to better understand the record of climate change preserved in deep-sea sediments, including events ranging from the Ice Ages to El Nino occurrences. |
