Department of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics



Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences

Welcome to the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics - one of the largest units in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Akron. The Department offers bachelor's and master's programs, as well as accelerated 5 year B.S./M.S programs, in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. In addition, the Department offers a Ph.D. program in Engineering Applied Mathematics administered jointly by the Department and the College of Engineering.

The Department serves more than 3000 students in various mathematics classes every semester. Faculty scholarly activities, covering broad areas from pure and applied mathematics to education in mathematics and teacher training, are currently supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Office of Naval Research, Ohio Board of Regents, and various other state agencies and private foundations.
