DEGREE PROGRAMS Master of Public Administration The Master of Public Administration is a 48-credit-hour degree that prepares students for careers in public and nonprofit management. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration, the program requires students to take 10 core courses (30 credit hours), five electives (15 credit hours), and an internship (3 credit hours). Master of Arts in Urban Studies The Master of Arts in Urban Studies is a 33-credit-hour degree that focuses on applied policy. Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration The combined Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration is 109-credit-hour degree for students seeking training in both the legal and public service fields. Students complete 11 courses (33 credit hours) in the MPA program and 76 credit hours in The University of Akron School of Law. Students must be accepted to both programs to participate. Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Studies and Public Affairs The Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Studies and Public Affairs is a 64-credit-hour joint program of UA’s Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies and Cleveland State University’s Levin College of Urban Affairs. This program prepares students for academic careers and for public service careers. Specializations in public administration and in public policy are available.
