Bachelor of Science in Political Science/ Criminal Justice
The bachelor of science degree in Political Science/ Criminal Justice is the perfect program for students interested in law enforcement or administration, probation or parole, homeland security, or intelligence. Some students also opt to go into advocacy programs for victim rights, at-risk populations, or juveniles. Some graduates persue graduate school or attend law school.
Students interested in Political Science/ Criminal Justice have a wide variety of options to obtain their bachelor of science degree. The first option is to begin their academic career with an associate degree in Criminal Justice Technology from Summit College or another approved institution. Other students choose to go directly into the Political Science program, but are required to take some Criminal Justice Technology coursework to result in either a minor in Criminal Justice Technology or 12 credits of specialized CJ courses with a minimum 3.0 GPA. These courses, like Criminal Law, Evidence, and Criminology, give students hands-on training in their career field.
In the Department of Political Science, students will take a series of courses in both Political Science, like the Judicial Process, Civil Liberties, Media, and Congress, and in Criminal Justice, like Challenges of Police Work, Prison- Probation- Parole, Law and Society, and Politics of the Criminal Justice System.
The B.S. requires 131 semester credit hours and a 2.2 GPA. You can see the full program requirements list here. |
