Professor Louscher's field of study is international relations with a focus on security studies and defense. The research he performs allows him to keep up with the fast paced evolution of international relations, defense technology, threats to U.S. security, and the defense industry. His courses include International Defense Policy, International Relations, Civil War Strategy, and WWII Strategy.

He is the author of six books, fifty-six conference papers, twenty-six articles, and one hundred and nineteen project reports. His current research is focused on homeland defense for a potential biological attack.

Professor Louscher has had broad research experience in the fields of defense technology diffusion, arms market analysis, and forecasting. He has served as a consultant to the Department of Defense, the Armed Services, and such agencies as NASA for over 20 years. Much of his work for the government has focused on strategic scenario construction and the consideration of long term planning requirements. This experience has generated a strong analytical background and a good understanding of the barriers and pitfalls to long term strategic assessment.

He has served as a consultant for market analysis and demand projection for a number of major defense firms. In addition, he has served as a consultant to firms specializing in providing market analysis and threat scenario development for defense firms. He has conducted near term and long term assessment of the economic impact of many export market conditions for such business clients as Northrop-Grumman, Lockheed Martin, BMY, FMC Corporation, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and AT&T.
