John A. Mascolo obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1986 and his Juris Doctor in Law in 1993 from the University of Akron. He served as an Assistant Law Director for the City of Akron from 1993-2000, working as a trial attorney in both the criminal and civil divisions of the office. In 1997, he served as the first Domestic Violence Prosecutor in Akron Municipal Court.
In 2001, Mr. Mascolo became an assistant prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office. In February, 2002, he was appointed as the Director of the Community Prosecution Program. In that capacity, he supervised prosecutors and staff assigned to the Community Prosecution Program, the Domestic Violence Unit and the Felony Drug Court in Common Pleas Court. He also served as a Grand Jury Prosecutor. Since 2007, he has served as the full-time Director of the Domestic Violence Unit. In that capacity he actively prosecutes cases of felony intimate partner violence and supervises staff assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit.
Mr. Mascolo is a native of Akron. He serves as a board member of the Catholic Commission, the Center for Restorative Justice of North Central Ohio and the Family Violence Prevention Council of the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services. He is a member of the Akron Bar Association and volunteers with a number of community organizations.
