Department Mission The Department of Political Science at The University of Akron has a strong faculty dedicated to teaching and scholarship in the field of political science. In fact, the current full-time faculty has published 28 books and 245 articles and book chapters, delivered over 322 professional conference papers, and have written more than 100 governmental and corporate reports.
The faculty is equally dedicated to excellence in teaching. Many employ simulations, various modes of multi-media instruction, computer laboratory gaming, computer modeling, internships, and other innovative teaching exercises. The department emphasizes its practical orientation toward career planning, and personnel are available to provide such advice and counseling.
We are very proud of the successful careers of many of our graduates in criminal justice, campaign consulting, American government, international relations, business and defense consulting, law, environmental planning, survey research, and politics.
The department offers several degree programs, including the BA in Political Science (American Politics, International/Comparative Politics, and Law, Courts and Politics tracks) and the BS in Political Science/ Criminal Justice. Additionally, the department offers two masters degree programs: the MA in Political Science and the Master of Applied Politics (MAP).
