Dating to 1870, the university’s founding year, the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences today is the largest and most diverse of UA’s degree-granting colleges. It leads in the number of undergraduates its faculty members teach in the general education program and in the amount of external grants its faculty receive for research. U.S. News and World Report ranks its program in industrial/organizational psychology among the nation’s Top 10.

Our students begin lifetime explorations into our ever-widening, wondrous world. In the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences – they discover the dynamic interplay of knowledge, skill, confidence and success.
