The Executive In Residence Program
Sponsored by the Advisory Board of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy The Executive In Residence Program was designed to give students the opportunity to interact with accounting executives from public accounting and industry in a non-threatening atmosphere in order obtain practical ideas for success in the accounting profession. This program can help students strengthen oral communication skills with business professionals and nurture and improve one's confidence in interacting with accounting and business professionals. By interacting with accounting professionals from all different industries, students can enhance awareness of opportunities available that best fit their skill sets and interests.
Experienced executives and professional accountants staff the program and are open to discuss career options, interview tips and questions, industry specific questions, and the like. Each Executive in Residence serves on the School's Advisory Board and volunteers valuable time to work directly with students. The EIR program is the Board's response to their observation that accounting students could increase their marketability and chances for success by strengthening their communication and networking skills.

How the Program Works
The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students with in interest in accounting and taxation. EIRs and employees from their organizations are invited by faculty to make presentations to students in designated classes. Sessions and topics are selected early in the semester and publicized on the School of Accountancy’s web page. After each presentation, individual students or small groups of students are invited to meet and talk with the EIR who presented in a friendly setting, such as a student organization office, a faculty office, the Murphy room, the Accountancy Conference Room, or the Student Union. There is no specific agenda for these meetings. EIRs will discuss with students their firms and their professional experience, as well as give them practical ideas for transitioning from college to the professional world.
How to Participate in the Program
Participating in the program is easy. The only requirements are:
- A declared interest in accounting or taxation;
- Sign up in advance to meet with EIRs or simply arrange to meet with an EIR immediately after the class he/she teaches; and
- Do not miss EIR appointments if you signed up for one.
Sign up sheets will be available directly from the regular instructors of the classes that an EIR will teach.
