Transfer Credits

Students who desire to transfer from other colleges at The University of Akron campus or from other universities will be admitted to the CBA so long as they have met the GPA and credit hour requirements described in the CBA Admission Policy section. Students lacking any combination of the four courses normally required for admission are required to complete them or their equivalents within the first year after being admitted to the CBA. For courses completed as part of any associate degree program (i.e., two-year/100/200 only) and which are similar to courses taught in the CBA, a student may petition for acceptance of those courses in lieu of the required courses by evaluation of course syllabi or other appropriate documentation. In instances where a transfer articulation agreement has been completed with the two-year program, all courses already accepted as part of the transfer articulation agreement will be automatically accepted for transfer credit. For courses not already evaluated as part of an (articulation) agreement, an evaluation may be requested by petition to the Office of CBA Undergraduate Advising. All such petitions should be accompanied by the course syllabus.

Transfer students must complete the following requirements at The University of Akron:
  • at least 14 credits of major departmental course work

  • a minimum of 32 semester hours in total for a baccalaureate degree

  • at least 50% of the business administration credit hours required for a business degree must be earned in the CBA at The University of Akron, including at least 14 credits of major departmental course work.

Transfer students may obtain placement equivalency standing for mathematics course work by contacting the Mathematics Department, Ayer Hall Room 235, 972-7400. The Mathematics Department requires a copy of the course syllabi completed at the other College/University.

Transfer hours entered upon the CBA's DRF are "tentative." Final acceptance of all transfer credits is determined by the Office of the Registrar. The Registrar's Audit of Transfer Hours posted to a student's University of Akron Academic Record overrides the CBA's DRF credit-hour estimation. Usually, there is little, if any, discrepancy.

A DRF will carry the notation "Transfer Hours Subject to Audit by the Registrar" when the CBA estimates total transfer credits. DRF entries are in semester hours.
