What do Supply Chain professionals do?

Supply Chain professionals manage material and product flow, information flow and relationships in a supply chain environment. Here are the skills that are used on a regular basis:

Basic Planning/Organizing/Directing/Control
Presentation and Communication/Listening
Leadership and Team Player/Building
Decision Making and Analysis
Evaluation (Performance, Supplier, Etc.)
Negotiation / Contract Development & Mgmt
Relationship Management (Supplier/Customer)

Is there a demand for Supply Chain Professionals?

Supply chain management is expected to be one of the biggest growth areas in the manufacturing sector. Supply chain alone accounts for seventy percent of operating costs of a company and is a big determinant of the quality of service to the eventual customer. The demand for knowledgeable supply chain professionals has increased dramatically. A joint survey by Stanford University, INSEAD and Accenture Consulting revealed that the greatest obstacle to the effective supply chain management was the lack of core supply chain management knowledge and skills.
