Entrepreneurship Scholarships The Jeffrey R. Brashares Endowed Scholarship in Entrepreneurship
The Jeffrey R. Brashares Endowed Scholarship in Entrepreneurship was created through the generosity of Mr. Jeffrey Brashares ’72, President of Pacer Global Logistics. This scholarship represents Mr. Brashares' commitment to the success of students pursuing advanced studies in entrepreneurship, as well as his commitment to The University of Akron. To be considered for this $1,000 scholarship, candidates must be pursuing either a minor or a certificate in entrepreneurship and must have successfully completed all four required courses (i.e., 6300:201, 6300:301, 6600:300 and either 6140: 300, 6300:330 or 6400:301). The candidate must also have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25. The award is not renewable. To apply for the scholarship, submit the CBA Scholarship Application Form to the Chair of the CBA Scholarship Committee, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by April 1. The John Wesley Doubledee Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of John Wesley Doubledee, this scholarship is awarded annually to one student who displays significant potential as a future business leader through academic success, civic involvement and community efforts. The recipient will be a deserving student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in business within one of the following areas: e-business, entrepreneurship, information technologies or international business. To be considered for this scholarship, both undergraduate and graduate students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. Graduate students must have been accepted into one of The University of Akron’s graduate programs in the College of Business Administration. Preference will be given to students who are Summit County residents. Awards are renewable to students maintaining a 3.0 or better GPA. The Alberta and E.C. McCormick, Jr. Educational Fund
Established at the request of Suzanne Rickards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McCormick, this scholarship will benefit students in the College of Business Administration, specifically those pursuing coursework in the William T. and Rita Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. E.C. McCormick was a 1923 graduate of The University of Akron. A true entrepreneur, Mr. McCormick founded the McCormick Insurance Agency after graduation and also had interests in the trucking industry and the cattle business. He was a generous and dedicated benefactor of the University until his death in 1985. First preference for the scholarship will be given to children of employees of the McCormick Insurance Agency pursuing coursework in the CBA. Should no qualified candidates surface under this criteria, and in the same spirit of entrepreneurship that drove Mr. McCormick in his career, second preference will be given to students taking coursework in the Fitzgerald Institute. The Sidney A. and Cora Walker Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 1995 by Sidney A. and Cora Walker as a means of supporting and advancing the career aspirations of business students in the fields of marketing and entrepreneurship. Through his love of higher education, Mr. Walker’s wish was to foster educational opportunities for worthy and deserving undergraduate students who major in marketing management, sales management, emarketing/ advertising and international business or minor in entrepreneurial studies. The scholarship is open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are pursuing one or more of the above mentioned majors or the minor. Walker Scholarships are renewable for those recipients who meet or exceed established performance standards. To apply for this scholarship, submit an application (consisting of a resume and cover letter) to Mrs. Karen Nelsen in the Marketing Department (Room 302) or mail it to Mrs. Karen Nelsen, College of Business Administration, Marketing Department, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4804.
