The Brunswick/Sigrist Endowed Scholarship
Established by Robert C. Sigrist, retired president of the Brunswick Corporation in 1995, this scholarship was set up to assist and encourage College of Business Administration students to complete a business degree. The scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior who has demonstrated high achievement in both leadership and scholarship without regard for financial need. This scholarship is awarded for the duration of the student’s academic program, provided he/she maintains a 3.0 GPA and carries at least 10 hours each semester. Priority will be given to students who are employed at least part-time while attending the College of Business Administration and whose educational objective is to work in the industry and business community upon graduation. The Christian Values in Business Endowed Scholarship
The Christian Values in Business Endowed Scholarship was established in 1998 by Ronald W. and Beverly J. Ocasek, alumni of the University. The scholarship was established by the Ocaseks to reward aspiring young business people who show definite promise of Christian service in the business community. The Christian Values in Business Endowed Scholarship provides tuition assistance to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration. These scholarships are to be awarded to students who are active members of a Christian church in Summit County, who demonstrate an exemplary spiritual life, and show definite promise of Christian service in the business community. Applicants should be students who maintain good academic records and receive a recommendation from their local pastor. To remain eligible for the scholarship the student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average at The University of Akron. Selection of the recipient will be determined by the College of Business Administration without regard to race, creed, color, sex or national origin. The Elinor and Delmar A. Christensen Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is provided by the estate of Delmar A. Christensen, a 1940 graduate of the University, in memory of Elinor and Delmar A. Christensen. The fund is selfperpetuating and is to be used for students enrolled in both the College of Business Administration and the ROTC program at The University of Akron. Selection is made by the CBA Scholarship Committee in consultation with the ROTC. The Robert E. Donovan Scholarship
Established in memory of Robert E. Donovan by family and friends in remembrance of Mr. Donovan’s belief in the value of education, this scholarship is awarded annually to one undergraduate and one graduate student. The recipients will be deserving women pursing degrees in engineering, law, or business. The undergraduate recipient will have an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, completed at least 32 credits and demonstrated financial need. The graduate recipient will have been accepted within one of The University of Akron’s graduate programs in engineering, law, or business and will have achieved an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or better with demonstrated financial need. Selection of eligible CBA students is made by the CBA Scholarship Committee from a list provided by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
The Dr. James W. Dunlap Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2008 by individuals who graduated from The University of Akron College of Business Administration during Dr. Dunlap’s tenure as Dean of the College. The fund was established to show their sincere appreciation for his leadership while serving as Dean of the CBA, and to show the value they placed on his friendship both during his tenure and after. Dean Dunlap was always a favorite with students because of his concern and dedication to the students and is, therefore, affectionately known as “The Student’s Dean.” The recipient(s) of this scholarship will be at the junior or senior grade level, enrolled in the CBA, and pursuing any one of the College’s academic programs. First consideration will go to students who demonstrate strong interest and participation in CBA student organizations, particularly Pi Sigma Epsilon, Beta Gamma Sigma, Delta Sigma Pi, Beta Alpha Psi, Toastmasters and the International Business Association. The Dunlap Scholar(s) should maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have achieved at least one semester on the Dean’s list. The Kenneth Fahs Burkins Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2007 by Evelyn Fahs Burkins in recognition of the personal and professional success of her son, Kenneth Fahs Burkins. Kenneth graduated from the CBA in 1975 with a degree in Sales and Marketing. He joined Akron Porcelain and Plastics Company and now serves as V.P. of Sales and Marketing. He has been actively involved with the University, particularly the marketing and sales program and the Fisher Institute for Professional Selling. The scholarship will be awarded to a sales or marketing major. Selection will be made by the CBA Scholarship Committee in concert with the Office of Student Financial Aid. It will be based equally on academic merit and financial need, and leadership in college and community activities. Karen Frey Scholarship
This $3,000 scholarship is awarded to an entering freshman majoring in business who graduated from an area parochial high school. Selection is made by the CBA Scholarship Committee every four years. Application forms are mailed to area parochial schools.
The Haven J. Hood Scholarship in Business
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Haven J. Hood, V.P. and CFO of RJF International Corporation. It was created to provide financial support for CBA students. It will be awarded to a CBA student at the junior or senior level, with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2, who is enrolled full-time and can demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who were raised by a single mother. The scholarship is renewable, pending availability of funds. The recipient must maintain a GPA of at least 3.2. Selection of the recipient will be determined by the CBA Scholarship Committee. The Russell R. and Vivienne S. Johnstone Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2005 by Vivienne Skadsdamen Johnstone in memory of her husband, Russell, and as a gift to the Akron community where she and her husband lived and raised their children. It is to be awarded to incoming or current CBA students who have financial need. Consideration will be given to current students with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Selection of recipients is determined by the CBA Scholarship Committee. The Peggy and Bill Maltarich, Jr. Endowed Business Scholarship in Excellence
This scholarship was established in 1998 by Peggy and Bill Maltarich to thank The University of Akron for the fine education they received. The scholarship will be awarded to an entering freshman who has declared a business major and will be based on merit. Selection is made by the CBA Scholarship Committee. The Professor Stewart and Grace McKinnon Scholarship Fund
As a former professor in the College of Business Administration at The University of Akron, Dr. Stewart McKinnon knew the value of a quality education. After leaving the College of Business Administration, Dr. McKinnon and his wife, Grace, established a trust account at First National Bank that would one day provide great benefits to generations of students at The University of Akron. Then in 1976, in accordance with the terms of the bequest, The Professor Stewart and Grace McKinnon Scholarship and Loan Fund was established. At the direction of the Dean of the College of Business Administration, this fund is to benefit qualified students in accordance with Dr. McKinnon’s wishes. The fund is used to provide scholarships for qualified "transfer" students. Recipients are selected by the CBA Scholarship Committee.

The Robert R. Morrison Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Business

This scholarship was established in 1998 by The J.M. Smucker Company in honor of Bob Morrison’s retirement. Robert R. Morrison retired as Vice President of Operations after 38 years of service with The J.M. Smucker Company. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration. Applicants should be students who maintain good academic records, participate in extracurricular activities, and have some full or part-time work experience. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Selection of the recipient is determined by the CBA Scholarship Committee and Mr. Morrison. The Fern Murphy-Victor Endowed Scholarship
The Fern Murphy-Victor Endowed Scholarship was established by the family of Mrs. Murphy-Victor in her memory. Mrs. Victor was a life-time resident of Akron, graduated from Kenmore High School, and attended The University of Akron. The scholarship will be awarded to a female student who is a junior or senior business major of high moral character, with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. The award is $500 per academic year. It is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a GPA of at least 3.0. To apply for this scholarship, submit an application to the CBA Scholarship Committee c/o Mrs. Andrienne Calderon, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by April 1. The application should include a cover letter, a resume and a letter of recommendation that testifies to the candidate’s high moral character.
The R. C. and Katharine Musson Endowment Fund in the College of Business Administration
This fund was established on an endowed basis in 1985 through a grant by the R. C. and Katharine Musson Charitable Foundation. Earnings are used to provide scholarships for new freshman who have received direct admission to the College of Business Administration. Selection of recipients is determined by the CBA Scholarship Committee and is based on academic merit. The Stephen A. Perry and Sondra D. Perry Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established out of Mr. and Mrs. Perry’s desire to support and encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity and motivation to achieve significant educational and career goals in life and require financial assistance to do so. Mr. Perry began his higher education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from The University of Akron in 1970 and Mrs. Perry attended the University of Tennessee. Both received assistance in obtaining higher education and they recognize the importance of assisting other to do the same. Scholarship recipients must maintain at least a 2.75 grade point average. Scholarship funds shall be directed to tuition, fees and books. Selection of recipients is to be determined by the CBA Scholarship Committee. Preference will be given to students from Stark County. The Roger T. and Judith A. Read Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration
As strong benefactors and loyal advocates of their alma mater, Roger and Judy Read have supported many areas of The University of Akron. For the Read’s, students are a priority. The Roger T. and Judith A. Read Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration is the third scholarship award they have established at the University. Roger has a long history of involvement with the CBA. He graduated from the college with a B.S. in Management in 1963 and an MBA in 1966. In 1989 he received the college’s highest honor, the Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Award. He is a current member and past Chairman of the CBA Advancement Council. The Reads established this scholarship to support juniors and seniors in the CBA who have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 in their collegiate studies. Selection of recipients is determined by the CBA Scholarship Committee. The Dean E. Smith Family Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Dean E. Smith, President, Smith and Mazak, Inc. and a generous benefactor and ardent proponent of The University of Akron. The Smith family has sent four generations of students to The University of Akron and has been an important part of The University of Akron family. Dean’s Grandfather, William E. Smith, was a principal in the Atwater schools and had a master’s degree from the University. Dean’s father, E. Leland Smith, received his bachelors and master’s degrees from the University and taught for 38 years at Kenmore High School. Dean’s aunt, Opal Faye Smith, also attended the University and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Dean was an outstanding student in the CBA, graduating in 1954. He also earned his J.D. from the School of Law. Dean’s four sons are all graduates of the University.
It is Dean’s intention that his endowed scholarship be used to provide support for students in the College of Business Administration. The ideal recipient will be the student who, while maintaining high academic standards, finds time to actively participate in the activities of the college and in student or fraternity or sorority life. The David F. Thomas Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Business Administration
This scholarship was established in 1998 by David F. Thomas, Managing Director of Citicorp Venture Capital, LTD., New York, New York. Mr. Thomas graduated from The University of Akron in 1972 with B.S. degrees in Accounting and Finance. Mr. Thomas established this scholarship to thank The University of Akron for the fine education he received. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration. Applicants should be students who maintain good academic records, participate in extracurricular activities, and have some full or part-time work experience. The William and Mildred Walzer Scholarship
William and Mildred Walzer, who are now deceased, both graduated from the CBA. They established this scholarship to assist current CBA students who are in good academic standing and are involved in leadership activities. The Robert D. and Peggy A. Weed Scholarship for Excellence in Business
Established in 1998 by the late Robert D. Weed, the Robert D. and Peggy A. Weed Scholarship for Excellence in Business promotes the ideals of dedication, integrity, innovation, and growth. As owner and founder of Robert Weed Plywood, a wholesale warehouse distribution center for RV manufacturers, Mr. Weed attributed his success to people. To Weed, the most important asset for any business was skilled professionals committed to superior service and doing the job right. Through this scholarship, The University of Akron attracts the most talented and dedicated students pursuing careers in business. The Bernard F. Zaucha Endowed Accounting Scholarship for Excellence
This scholarship was established in 1997 by Mr. Bernard F. Zaucha, former faculty member of The University of Akron’s School of Accountancy. The scholarship was created to thank The University of Akron for the fine education he received and for appreciation for his many years of teaching. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the College of Business Administration who is a graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School, with first preference given to accounting majors. Selection of the recipient is made by the CBA Scholarship Committee, in consultation with the Zaucha family. Application forms are sent to the Guidance Department at Archbishop Hoban High School each year.
