Flexibility. Breadth. Depth.

The MBA at Akron is designed to meet your needs your way. The program is structured by laying a foundation in basic business concepts with a set of foundation courses. Some people call them “Bridge –Up” courses. This set of courses provides the background for students who do not have a business background and also serves to act as a refresher for those who have been out of the classroom for a while.

But not everyone needs a refresher. A one-on-one consultation with a member of our advising staff will review your academic background and work history to determine which of these courses you do not need to take. We also offer waiver exams so that you have the opportunity to prove yourself, if needed. If you obtained your undergraduate degree and completed comparable courses in business less than six years prior to admission to the MBA program, with acceptable grades, you can expect to be exempted from most foundation level courses. All courses, whether foundation, or advanced, are offered on a schedule that permits you to start your program in any semester.

Beyond the foundation coursework, the MBA at Akron provides you with a holistic view of business. Advanced courses in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, Policy, International Business and Leadership form the core of your studies. In the classroom you get to work and network with students from all over the globe and from a wide variety of backgrounds. This diversity of backgrounds, nationalities and experiences make the core of the MBA program one of its great strengths.

Personal enrichment and development in your chosen field of concentration provides you with the depth of knowledge you need to advance along your chosen career path. Regardless of the field you choose, whether it is e-business, management, global sales or finance, you get to learn from a business faculty with a deep involvement in business and who are dedicated to sharing their knowledge with you. In recent studies done by AACSB International, Akron was rated in the top in its Carnegie Class in terms of faculty accessibility and willingness to help their students. This is an attribute that we hold in high regard and one that we are proud to offer to our students.

Courses in the MBA at Akron can be taken on a full or part time basis. A student pursuing an accounting concentration may wish to take a heavier load in the summer and fall and less of a load in the busy season of spring. Others may wish to take summers off or accelerate their studies to accommodate their future plans. Your MBA your way. That is clearly an advantage of Akron.
