Waiver exams are available to students who are admitted to either the MBA or MSM programs in the College of Business and must be taken within one calendar year of the student’s first term of enrollment. They are not open to students who are admitted as Non-degree, Certificate or Engineering Management students. Students must be in good academic standing to sit for waiver exams. Students who take a waiver exam and achieve a score of less than 50% will be required to take the course and will not be eligible to retake the waiver exam for that course. Provisionally admitted students may take waiver exams but will not be permitted to take non-foundation coursework until all foundation coursework is completed.

Students have one year after their first class, in which to take the exams. (Exams may also be taken after admission before starting classes). One year is considered three semesters-fall, spring and summer but not necessarily in that order.

Students should contact the graduate programs office at (330)972-7043 to register for the exam. The $100 fee (per exam) is due two weeks before the date of the exam. Checks should be made out to The University of Akron with a memo notation of listing the waiver exam(s) you intend to take.

*Students taking waiver exams in April, August and January, must also enroll in the course they wish to waive for the following semester.
