Fisher Institute of Professional Selling

Top Ten Recent Achievements

  1. We have the broadest array of sales educations programs and the largest number of sales majors, minors, and certificate students in the world.
  2. We won the 2003 National Collegiate Sales Competition (individual as well as the team), an event in which over 30 of the top U.S. sales programs participate.
  3. We have been named by Sales and Marketing Management magazine (the leading professional magazine in sales with a circulation of over 250,000) as one of the top five graduate (in 2001) and one of the top six undergraduate (in 1996) university sales programs in the country.
  4. We were the third university in the world to earn accreditation (in 2003) for our sales educational programs by the Professional Society for Sales & Marketing Training.
  5. In 1998, Dr. Jon Hawes, Director of the Institute, was the second scholar in the history of the sales discipline to be recognized by Mu Kappa Tau (the National Marketing Honor Society) for his research contributions to the sales field.
  6. In 2001, Industrial Marketing Management published an article in which The University of Akron ranked 26th in the world (11th among non-Ph.D. granting universities) based on our scholarship in the field of industrial marketing, which is quite close to the field of sales.
  7. In 2000, the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management published an article in which The University of Akron ranked 19th in the world (8th among non-Ph.D. granting universities) based on our scholarship in the field of sales.
  8. We are the only university sales educational program to ever be a feature story (1998) in Sales and Marketing Management magazine.
  9. We have the country’s largest sales laboratory (seven rooms) and provide our sales majors with more professional development opportunities for formative feedback through videotaping of sales presentations than any other sales programs in the country.
  10. The University of Akron was listed as one of the “Top 10 Universities” in the Careers in Professional Selling magazine in the Summer of 2003.
