International Business Scholarships

The Joyce Wortman Barnett Endowed International Business Scholarship for Excellence
This scholarship is awarded each year to a female student who is enrolled in the College of Business Administration with a major in International Business. This scholarship was endowed by James W. Barnett in memory of his wife, Joyce Wortman-Barnett. Jim Barnett ’54 became the first director of the Institute for Global Business after retiring from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Scholarships will be awarded by the CBA Scholarship Committee, in consultation with the Institute for Global Business. Selection will be based on academic merit. If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, please complete the application form below and submit it to Mrs. Andrienne Calderon, Chair, CBA Scholarship Committee, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by February 28. The scholarship is renewable based on academic qualifications.

The Margaret (Zink) Brewster Scholarship in International Business (formerly The Mrs. Evan B. (Peg Zink ‘25) Brewster Expanding Scholarship Fund)
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Mrs. Margaret (Zink) Brewster ‘25 and the Brewster Family and is awarded to academically talented students at The University of Akron who are pursing degrees in International Business. Scholarships will be awarded by the CBA Scholarship Committee, in consultation with the Institute for Global Business. Selection will be based on academic merit. If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, please complete the application form below and submit it to Mrs. Andrienne Calderon, Chair, CBA Scholarship Committee, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by February 28. The scholarship is renewable based on academic qualifications.

The John Wesley Doubledee Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of John Wesley Doubledee, this scholarship is awarded annually to one student who displays significant potential as a future business leader through academic success, civic involvement and community efforts. The recipient will be a deserving student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in business within one of the following areas: e-business, entrepreneurship, information technologies or international business. To be considered for this scholarship, both undergraduate and graduate students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. Graduate students must have been accepted into one of The University of Akron’s graduate programs in the College of Business Administration. Preference will be given to students who are Summit County residents. Awards are renewable to students maintaining a 3.0 or better GPA. To apply for the scholarship, submit the CBA Scholarship Application Form to the Chair of the CBA Scholarship Committee, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by April 1.

The Flexsys America L.P. Global Business Scholarship Fund
This annual fellowship was established in 1998 by Flexsys America L.P., the largest worldwide producer of chemicals for the rubber industry. Flexsys, whose regional headquarters for the Americas is located in Northeast Ohio, wishes to demonstrate its strong commitment to academic excellence. This fund provides support to two juniors majoring in international business in the College of Business Administration. The specific purpose of this fund is to attract highly qualified students into the Institute for Global Business. Student selection is based on scholastic achievement, superior character, and leadership. The funded students will have the opportunity to participate in a summer internship at Flexsys with the prior approval of the Flexsys management team. To apply for this scholarship, complete the IGB application form (below) and submit it to the IGB Scholarship Committee, College of Business Adminstration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by February 1.

The Samir and Salma Gibara International Business Fellowships
Samir Gibara, retired chairman of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and his wife, Salma, desire to see these fellowships benefit students with a demonstrated history of high academic performance who are pursuing degrees in International Business. The awards are to be made available annually to one (1) international student from outside the United States and one (1) domestic student from within the United States. The awards are renewable based on academic performance with cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above required for consideration. Selection of recipients will be determined by the dean of the College of Business Administration with input from the director of the Institute for Global Business.

The Sidney R. and Cora Walker Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 1995 by Sidney R. and Cora Walker as a means of supporting and advancing the career aspirations of business students in the fields of marketing and entrepreneurship. Through his love of higher education, Mr. Walker’s wish was to foster educational opportunities for worthy and deserving undergraduate students who major in marketing management, sales management, emarketing/ advertising and international business or minor in entrepreneurial studies. The scholarship is open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are pursuing one or more of the above mentioned majors or the minor. Walker Scholarships are renewable for those recipients who meet or exceed established performance standards. To apply for this scholarship, submit the Department of Marketing Scholarship Application Form to Mrs. Karen Nelsen in the Marketing Department (Room 302) or mail it to Mrs. Karen Nelsen, Marketing Department, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4804, by April 1.
