College of Business Administration Department of Management Scholarships The Department of Management is proud to offer the following scholarships. The Jeffrey R. Brashares Endowed Scholarship in SCM
This scholarship was created through the generosity of Mr. Jeffrey R. Brashares, President of Rail Can, Inc. Mr. Brashares, class of 1972, has long recognized the importance of higher education. This scholarship represents his commitment to the success of students at The University of Akron and is to be awarded with preference given to a student who is pursuing either a major, minor or graduate concentration in supply chain management in the College of Business Administration. If no applicants meet these requirements, preference may be deferred to general management majors with cumulative grade point averages of at least 3.25. The selection of the recipient will be determined by the College of Business Administration Scholarship Committee and Mr. Brashares. Center for Information Technology and E-Business (CITE) Tuition Scholarship
The CITE Scholarship was established to recruit outstanding students to the college’s information systems and e-business programs and to recognize current information systems and e-business majors who demonstrate academic excellence. It is awarded to students at any level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate) and is renewable. To be eligible for the scholarship, an incoming freshman must have a high school GPA of at least 3.0 and an ACT score of at least 21 or SAT score of at least 880, and be an information systems or e-business major. A current undergraduate or graduate student must be enrolled on a full-time basis, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 and be an information systems or e-business major. To remain eligible for this scholarship, the recipient must continue to major in information systems or e-business in the CBA, maintain a grade point average of at least 3.4, and remain a fulltime student. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by the CBA Scholarship Committee. Freshmen recipients will be selected from the list of incoming freshmen as of February 1. Current students should submit a letter of application to the CBA Scholarship Committee, c/o Mrs. Andrienne Calderon, College of Business Administration, The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325-4805 by April 30. The letter should explain the student’s circumstances of financial need, provide evidence of academic excellence and describe the student’s career goals in the fields of accounting information systems, management information systems, or e-business.
The John Wesley Doubledee Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of John Wesley Doubledee, this scholarship is awarded annually to one student who displays significant potential as a future business leader through academic success, civic involvement and community efforts. The recipient will be a deserving student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in business within one of the following areas: e-business, entrepreneurship, information technologies or international business. To be considered for this scholarship, both undergraduate and graduate students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. Graduate students must have been accepted into one of The University of Akron’s graduate programs in the College of Business Administration. Preference will be given to students who are Summit County residents. Awards are renewable to students maintaining a 3.0 or better GPA. The David M. Grubb Endowed Scholarship
David M. Grubb earned two degrees from the University of Akron College of Business Administration, a BSIM in 1977 and an MBA in 1979. Upon graduating from the University, Mr. Grubb went to work for the consulting division of Arthur Andersen, which later became Accenture. Mr. Grubb ascended through the ranks to achieve partner status, and at the time this scholarship was created, he had been with the company for 23 years. In 2002, David Grubb established this scholarship to benefit undergraduate or graduate students in the Management program with a demonstrated history of high academic achievement. This scholarship is renewable as long as the student is enrolled at The University of Akron and continues to maintain the same standards of academic achievement that initially qualified them for the scholarship. The student must reapply for the award.
The Jack W. Johnson Memorial Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established in 2003 by loving family and friends as a lasting tribute to Jack W. Johnson. An Akron native, Jack graduated from the CBA in 1960 with a B.S.I.M. degree. The Johnson scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Human Resources Management, with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2, who exhibits leadership within the CBA. The scholarship will be awarded for the remainder of the recipient's academic program, provided he/she maintains a GPA of at least 3.2 and continues to pursue a Human Resources Management major. The award is $1,000 per academic year. The Thomas J. Kelty Memorial APICS Scholarship Award
This award was originally established in 1984 by the Akron Area Chapter of The American Production & Inventory Control Society, and was renamed the Thomas J. Kelty Memorial APICS Scholarship in memory of Thomas J. Kelty, who was a strong advocate for professional education and an active supporter of the Student APICS Chapter at The University of Akron. This award is given to recognize outstanding students majoring in Industrial Management.
Management Department Advisory Board Scholarship Fund
The Management Department Advisory Board established the Management Department Advisory Board Scholarship Fund in 1999 in order to provide scholarships to deserving junior and senior level Management majors who have distinguished academic records. The eligibility/selection criteria is the same as for the Management Faculty Scholarships.
The Management Faculty Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 by the faculty of the Management Department. Recipients of this scholarship must:
(a) have declared Management as their major,
(b) maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better, and
(c) have completed at least one course in Management beyond the CBA core.
The Dorothy A. Mizer Endowed Scholarship
(formerly the Management Student Support Scholarship Fund)
This scholarship was established in 2001 by an anonymous donor interested in supporting management students while honoring and remembering a member of the donor’s family. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist deserving students in the Management Department. Proceeds from this fund shall be given to deserving students to help offset the cost of textbooks and other materials required throughout the academic year. Recipients of this award must have declared management as their major. This award will be administered by the Management Scholarship Committee.
The Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Society for Information Management Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund was established in 1997 in an effort to support the development of a strong information technology community. The Society for Information Management (SIM) is an international professional organization of senior information technology managers. The award recipient must be enrolled in the College of Business Administration and their major area of study must be one that prepares them for a career in the Information Systems or Information Management fields.
Northeast Ohio WERCouncil Scholarship
The Northeast Ohio WERCouncil, an affiliate of the Warehousing Education and Research Council, established the WERC Scholarship in 2004 to support Supply Chain/Operations Management students in the College of Business Administration at The University of Akron. The scholarship will be awarded as funds are available. The scholarship recipient will have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a declared major or minor in supply chain/operations management. All recipients must be enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours) within the CBA and must meet the minimum coursework requirements of The University of Akron. The George E. Price Memorial Scholarship
This $500 scholarship was established by the Akron Chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Managers in honor of George E. Price, a former member of the chapter and national president of the association, for his contributions to the field of industrial purchasing. Applicants must be junior or senior supply chain/operations management majors. Students need to include a cover letter, a resume and an essay. Deadline for this scholarship is April 15th. Selection is made by representatives of the National Association of Purchasing Managers and the Department of Management Scholarship Committee. R. Gene and Nancy D. Richter Foundation
Winners of the R. Gene Richter Scholarship are awarded tuition assistance of $5,000 (December graduates will be awarded $2,500). In addition, Richter Scholars are enrolled in a mentoring program where they are paired with an established executive in the field. The Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000 by the College of Business Administration Alumni Advisory Board to recognize and honor the significant impact Dr. Frank L. Simonetti has had on the lives of thousands of CBA graduates. The Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to incoming students who have been admitted to the College of Business Administration and display significant potential as future business leaders through academic success, civic involvement and community efforts. The scholarship recipients are selected by the College of Business Administration and the CBA Alumni Advisory Board from the list of entering freshmen who have declared a management major. The Society for Human Resource Management Scholarship
