Student/Graduate Spolight
Recent Graduate:
Jeremy Sallee will be designing and working with other Reebok footwear designers for 11 months at Reebok International in Canton, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston). He was chosen to be one of three footwear design apprentices after he completed a shoe design project for the company. Jeremy played basketball at UA for four years and created his own major. Jeremy graduated in 2007 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Jeremy’s favorite memory of the CBA/Taylor was taking a class with Dr. Deborah Owens.
Faculty Perspective
Dr. Deborah Owens- Associate Professor of Marketing and International Business: It was great to Jeremy follow his passion - both on the basketball court and in the classroom. I noticed early on how Jeremy was driven to pursue his dream of designing footwear for a major shoe company. Jeremy served as a great role model to fellow students. The wonderful computer facilities at the Taylor Institute allow students like Jeremy the hands on opportunity to research trends and also to be creative beyond the traditional lecture style format. |
Student’s Perspective:
Advice:
- My advice to future students would be to do "what you want to do." In my case, I had to create my own major through the interdisciplinary studies program because the University doesn't offer a fashion or industrial design program. "Be advised... YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN MAJOR."
Great Memory:
- My greatest memory in the CBA would probably have to be having Dr. Owen's Buyer Behavior class with my teammates Nate Linhart and Cedric Middleton at the Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing. The Buyer Behavior Class required us to complete an entire Campaign. We had to design an on-line survey, and conduct actual research - of course we chose shoe companies- and determine consumer perceptions. Next we had to determine a reposition strategy along with tactics to support it. and All I can say is ... "I did a lot of work that semester."
What I liked:
What I liked about the CBA experience is the hands on approach to learning, and fact that I was able to take the exact classes I needed to fulfill my needs due to the Interdisciplinary Studies program. |
