Financial Aid and Scholarships The University of Akron awards financial assistance through scholarships, grants, loans, and part-time employment, sponsored by federal, state, and local entities. The University annually offers more than one million dollars in presidential, honors, national merit, general academic, and minority scholarships. To learn more about these and other federal and state financial assistance opportunities, you should inquire in the Financial Aid Office in the Student Administrative Services Building, (330) 972-7032.
For information about scholarships granted directly by the College of Education, you will find both the guidelines and the most current application form on this website. For additional clarification on College of Education scholarships, contact (330) 972-6966.
Remember: the financial aid and scholarship process is competitive and requires student initiative, persistence and responsibility. Also, your level of academic excellence is often a factor in being competitive in receiving scholarships. Students must be constantly alert to opportunities and willing to complete various forms on time in order to compete successfully for both financial aid and scholarship support.
Visit the Guidelines for College of Education Scholarships page to view information regarding your eligibility as either an undergraduate or graduate-level student to compete for these awards. Be certain you have reviewed the Guidelines before you compete and submit a scholarship application.
Applications for Spring 2009 awards will be available early in the Fall 2008 semester. It is important that you remember also that scholarships are not automatically "renewed." You must reapply at the appropriate time for continuing consideration. Both the Guidelines and Application may be printed from this website.
A limited number of graduate assistantships are available through the department and related academic areas within the College of Education. In addition, the Graduate School, International Programs, and a number of other departments on campus offer graduate assistantships to students with majors in Counseling. Departments also award a limited number of full tuition scholarships to master's and doctoral students each year.
