Program Details
The Marriage and Family Counseling/Therapy (MFT/C) Program is based on systems thinking and integrates advanced theory, research competence, and clinical and supervisory skills to enhance the student’s expertise within these areas. Training in research methodology and statistics is required, and culminates in a dissertation. The supervised practica (clinical experiences) include training in individual, couple, and family therapy, as well as coursework in the process of supervision in marriage and family therapy. Clinical supervision is based on live observation, videotape, or audiotape. Students are expected to maintain clinical activity throughout their program. Students must accumulate 1000 client contact hours and a minimum of 200 hours of supervision by the end of their program in order to fulfill graduation requirements. The program consists of a minimum of 120 semester credit hours (including appropriate master’s level coursework transferred into the program).
The MFT/C Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The Program is also accredited by CACREP, and has been approved by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board as meeting the educational requirements for marriage and family licensure and professional counselor licensure.
