Master's Degree Admission Requirements and On-Line Application Forms All Counseling Master's Degree Programs - An applicant may only apply to one master’s degree program per semester. Before entering a master’s degree program the student must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a recognized/accredited institution. All applicants are required to have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) for all undergraduate coursework OR at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA for the last 64 credits of undergraduate coursework. To be provisionally admitted, applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5. Applicants should visit the Graduate School website for more detailed information about minimal University of Akron Graduate School application requirements. International applicants are also encouraged to visit the Office of International Programs website in order to gain more information about university resources and international application procedures.
- Application Deadlines
Community Counseling Master's Program - Rolling admissions (There are no deadlines to apply. However, for processing purposes we strongly encourage applicants to submit all application materials at least two months prior to the semester they wish to begin.) New admissions will not be accepted once a particular cohort has been filled.
Classroom Guidance for Teachers, Marriage and Family Counseling/Therapy, School Counseling Master's Programs - The deadline for receipt of all application materials IN THE GRADUATE SCHOOL is March 15 for Fall semester admissions and October 1 for Spring semester admissions. - The following materials must be included in master’s degree application packets, regardless of which program the student is applying for:
- Graduate School Application - Found online at the ApplyYourself Webcenter website (see link in the left column).
- Official Undergraduate Transcripts – must be sent from the student’s previous undergraduate institution directly to the Graduate School after completing a request for transcripts.
- Department of Counseling Application Supplement Form – can be completed/printed at the following link: Application Supplement Form. OR can be completed online at the ApplyYourself Webcenter website (see link at right).
- Three Letters of Reference – standard reference forms can be completed/printed at the following link: Letters of Reference. OR can be completed online at the ApplyYourself Webcenter website (see link at right).
- Official TOEFL Scores - ONLY INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS – must be sent from the student or testing organization directly to the Graduate School after completion of the examination.
