Mission Statement

The integration of instructional technology into the teaching and learning process continues to have a major influence in K-16 education and the workplace. The Master's degree in Instructional Technology prepares its graduates to be effective teachers and technology integrators with the necessary skills and knowledge to be leaders in their respective areas. The program examines the intersection of specific instructional technologies, including distance-learning technologies, with the broad range of learner populations while seeking to maintain alignment with state and professional standards. Faculty and students are engaged in research on multiple aspects of the design of learning environments and the delivery and assessment of effective instruction.

The graduate program in Educational Foundations emphasizing Instructional Technology has been designed to assist its students in becoming competent, employable professionals, capable of making a significant contribution to the field. The graduate curriculum provides its students with exposure to a wide range of emerging technologies, while still ensuring the basic competencies required of all practitioners. In this way, the program directly addresses the rapidly accelerating changes in the field of interactive and distance-learning technologies while still recognizing its roots in instructional design, media, and computer-mediated education.

Admission standards

As per the Graduate Bulletin, the student who expects to earn the master’s degree for advancement in the field of teaching must meet the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School and must be qualified to hold a standard teaching certificate. The student must receive a pass grade on the relevant Master’s Comprehensive Exam or portfolio if required.

Needs of the State or Region
