Applied Research

Applied Research is the in-depth inquiry and study that seeks to produce practical use of its findings within a specified subject matter. In the area of Literacy, applied research encompasses a wide spectrum of comprehension topics and issues for both children and adults. The most traditional of these are reading, writing, and oral and print language. In its broadest context, literacy, as the individual and interactive construction of meaning, has evolved to include extended means of communication and expression such as movement and music.

Scholarship in the area of applied research is dynamically represented by the Literacy faculty of the College of Education. The following links and bibliography have been provided as information about and access to a selection of recent faculty research projects. For information about additional research studies, please contact the Center for Literacy’s faculty.
