Sport Science and Wellness Education
Clinical and Field Experiences Sport Science and Wellness Education majors have the opportunity to obtain practical experience through course work in their major. These practical experience include 600 documented clock hours and are a State of Ohio requirement for licensure. Students receive specific practical experiences in areas such as: Adapted Physical Education, Motor Learning and Development, Movement Education, Outdoor Education, Exercise Science, Skills Acquisition, Skills Diagnosis and Pedagogy, Adult Leisure Education, and Coaching Effectiveness. In addition, a microteaching component specific to the teaching field is required. These sessions will allow you to plan, teach, and evaluate videotaped "lessons" you give to your classmates.
Concentration areas in sport management/marketing, strength and conditioning, coaching, physiological sciences and outdoor leadership allow students the practical experience necessary to acquire skills and leadership ability to obtain employment in specific careers within the sport, exercise, and wellness field. Students have the opportunity to work with Division I strength and conditioning programs, Division I Athletic programs, cardiac rehabilitation facilities, community based fitness/wellness centers, outdoor recreation facilities, and within professional and amateur organizations.
