Concentration Area (20 hours)
There is unparalleled interest in sport, exercise and recreation. It is a well-known fact that sport, exercise, and recreation account for $100 billion in annual revenue and 4 million-plus jobs. Thus, the opportunity for sport-related careers increases daily. To allow our students to be competitive in the job market, specialization is available through specific concentrations.
Physiological Sciences
This concentration allows students to specialize in the sub-fields of exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation. The student is able to gain practical experience by completing an internship in a health and fitness related setting. This is an excellent concentration in preparation for ACSM certification as well as graduate school in exercise physiology.
Sport Management/Sports Marketing
The sport management/marketing concentration prepares students to attain a variety of sport specialist positions in professional and amateur sport organizations, sport facilities, community recreation centers, health and wellness facilities, leisure resorts and other private or public agencies.
Pre-Physical Therapy
This concentration allows students to take coursework which is generally considered prerequisite to entry into master's level programs in physical therapy.
Sport Coaching/Strength and Conditioning
This concentration focuses on the teaching of strength, conditioning, and coaching principles. Internships in high school and university settings afford our students an excellent opportunity to gain the knowledge necessary to become highly qualified and effective coaches and strength specialists.
