Tech Prep Mini Conference

The Department of Sport Science & Wellness Education (SSWE) and the Athletic Health Care and Fitness Tech Prep program housed at Kent Roosevelt High School have been engaging in a variety of teaching and learning activities for the past 5 years. Each spring semester, the Kent Roosevelt athletic health care and fitness students and SSWE undergraduate and graduate students are partnered together to engage in research projects using department laboratory equipment. The University of Akron students mentor the high school students throughout the research process. The students work together to create a research topic, define testing procedures, testing the subjects, analyzing the results, creating the oral presentation, and assisting with the presentation. The culmination of the project is the Tech Prep Mini-Conference held on The University of Akron campus in April, which includes the students’ parents, SSWE department faculty, and University administrators.
