Career Services for Educators: "Teaching a Lifetime of Learning"

Center for Career Management

The Center for Career Management provides career management services for all graduates and alumni/ae of The University of Akron. Candidates that are interested in opportunities in teaching, educational administration, or higher education administration, and who are interested in learning how to best market their education, skills and abilities, are welcome to seek out services. During the semester in which you do your student teaching, each student teacher is required to attend a one-hour seminar sponsored through the College of Education in which services and activities of the Center for Career Management are explained in detail. Additionally, students will receive job search information to help in finding employment in their field of interest, including registration information and procedures on the Annual Education Expo.

Current students are highly encouraged to contact the Center at least twelve to fifteen months prior to graduation to learn about, and participate in, all of the services and activities offered.

The following services are provided to Education Majors through the Center. Services are free to current students ($35.00/year for alumni/ae)

Career Education and Advising

Consultation with trained professional staff members on career management issues including resumes and application letter development, resume critiques, interviewing skills, mock interviews, job search strategies, assessing job offers, portfolio development, etc.

Resume and/or Letter of Application Drop-Off Service

Candidates may drop their resume or application letters off in the Center to have critiqued by a professional staff member and then picked up within 48 hours. Candidates may also email their documents for critique to uaccm@uakron.edu.

Career Management Resource Center

The Center houses a directory of Ohio and out-of-state educational institutions, education employer literature and applications, over a hundred career management and job search books and publications, job search handouts, and job openings in Ohio and out-of-state for teaching and administration candidates. In addition, information on career management topics and resources and job links may be found on the Center’s web page.
