Scholarship Guidelines
The College of Education Scholarship Fund assists qualified students enrolled in a college-approved program. Scholarships are awarded to both full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students. Specifications for the award of named scholarships are often restricted to a particular major, certification/licensure field and/or student profile by donors. Also, available dollars to be awarded from the various named scholarships for a given year, and the number of eligible candidates who have applied, usually result in recipient awards that vary in amount.
Typically, undergraduate applicants must have completed at least 30 undergraduate credit hours at The University of Akron and be fully admitted to a College of Education approved program to be eligible. Other College of Education undergraduates who are eligible include transfer students who have applied to their specific program and are directly admitted to the College of Education. Both full- and part-time students are eligible to apply. Students must be considered in good standing.
Graduate applicants must be fully admitted to both the Graduate School and to an approved College of Education program, with a 2.75 undergraduate GPA, or be in the process of finalizing the application for admission to their program, with 9 graduate credit hours and a 3.0 GPA or better completed. Both full- and part-time students are eligible to apply.
Applications are reviewed and rated by a faculty committee. The applications are evaluated based upon the applicant's GPA and the quality of the written essay.
Applications for scholarships are available in October and in March. A link will appear at the bottom of this page when the applications are available. We strongly encourage all eligible students to apply.
