Office of Certification & Licensure

Mission

The Office of Certification & Licensure is a component of the Office of Student Services in the College of Education. Its mission is to ensure that individuals seeking careers in Education are properly certified/licensed with adherence to the current guidelines of the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Center for the Teaching Profession. The College of Education Office of Certification & Licensure is responsible for:
  • Validating completion of program and degree requirements.
  • Validating successful completion of
  • Facilitating the certification & licensure process including criminal background check by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII).
  • Verifying completion of ODE approved programs for University of Akron students seeking licensure/certification in states other than Ohio. The University of Akron is a member of the Interstate Certification Compact.

Hours of Operation

    Fall and Spring: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
    Summer Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
